The Suggestion Box
Tell us what to make, what to fix, or what we got wrong. The box is real, it is checked, and the person who reads it is the person who runs the store.
Nothing filed here is published. There is no public feed of suggestions and there will not be one.
File a suggestion
What happens next
Four stages. One of them is true, and it is the first one.
01
Receipt
Your suggestion enters the box. The box is checked. This is the part that is real.
02
Classification
Suggestions are sorted into Actionable, Interesting, and Already Considered. The third category was created in week one and has grown steadily.
03
Review
A panel convenes. The panel is one person. The person convenes by reading it on a phone.
04
Resolution
Good ideas are made into products. Bad ideas are kept, because the file of bad ideas is the most interesting document this company owns.
Questions
- Will anyone read this?
- Yes. One person, who runs the store, reads all of them. That is the entire review apparatus described above.
- Will you reply?
- Only if you leave a way to reach you, and only if there is something worth saying back.
- Does my suggestion get posted publicly?
- No. Never. There is no page that shows them and we are not building one.
- Can I suggest a product?
- This is the single best use of the box. Half the catalogue started as somebody's one-line idea.
- Can I tell you something is broken?
- Please do. Bugs filed here are read faster than compliments, which is the correct priority.
- Can I complain?
- Vigorously. The Department of Self-Owns is always short of material and we are its only source.
A note on the box
Every other page here is a bit. This one is a box.
The Bureau can invent a review panel and a filing system and a category called Already Considered. It cannot invent having read your idea. That part happens.
